Our Outstanding Debaters Move Into the Finals!

Congratualtions to both of our debating teams for winning all of their debates in their zones. Lara B was the only team in their zone to achieve this and so have automatically moved to the inter-zone final (date to be advised). Well done!

Lara A will compete with Geelong College this Wednesday afternoon to decide the winner of their zone as both teams won all of their debates. If they are successful they will also move to the inter-zone final.

If these teams win in their inter-zone final they will move to the grand final! (It's possible that they may compete against each other!)

Good luck and well done!

UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE!
Congratulations to the Lara A team for their success in their intra-zone final. An exrta well done goes to Annie for her best speaker award. They now progress to the inter-zone final against...Lara B! So Lara A will be debating with Lara B in a couple of weeks (date and time to be confirmed) for a spot in the competition Grand Final! This means that at least one of our teams will make it through to the final round! Great effort guys!

Term 4 in the LG Building

Term 4 is shaping up to be massive in the LG building! We have plenty of fun and busy events to look forward to and heaps of things to get done before the Year Sixes move on to secondary school and our Year Fives take over as our school leaders.

Some highlights will include:

- Competing in our chosen sports against other schools in the Summer Lightning Premiership (Wednesday 29th of October).

- Busting some moves with students from other schools at the Blue Light Disco run by Victoria Police (Wednesday 19th of November).

- Preparing and practicing for our Year Six Graduation performance (Thursday night, 18th of December).

- Orientation and transition for Grade Sixes as they prepare to move to their new secondary schools.

- Year 5 students will go through the process of applying for and voting for 2015 school captains.

- Visiting other classrooms and learning new skills as part of our procedural writing rotations.

Wow! It might seem like a lot to get done and things might seem very busy, but that's what we love about life in the LG Building.

Stay tuned for more details of upcomming events and for photos and reports of events as they occur.

WLG and 1/2J Buddies

WLG and 1/2J were assigned to be buddy grades for 2014

In “Buddies” we like to share our I.C.T knowledge with one another. The LG’s are kind and helpful because they share their tablets with 1/2J.
We do loads of activities with the tablets from mathematical games to sharing our class events.

The Buddies have learnt a lot from their older buddies. We also have fun by looking at our “Country and Western” assembly videos and making a poster for our portfolio together.

We have really enjoyed Buddies and we love having a Buddy session fortnightly.

Souvereign Hill Camp

A couple of weeks ago Lara Primary School went to Sovereign Hill in Ballarat for camp. We had lots of fun panning for gold, doing mine tours, eating lots of lollies, and much more. A big thank you to Sir and Ma'am for teaching us what it was like to be a child in the 1850's. Also a big thanks to the parent helpers who came along and helped.

1/2 3/4 5/6 buddies news

1/2B, 3/4M and SLG talk HOLIDAYS!

1/2B, 3/4M and SLG caught up for our first buddies session of Term 3 on Monday July 14th. This saw lots of excitement by all students as they got to catch up on what they did on their holidays!

Keeping this in mind, what better way to share what everyone had done with their time, than to conduct interviews, make use of their tablets by typing the answers and to then create some beautiful pastel masterpieces to showcase their holidays!

Clever Grade 1/2 students thought up some very interesting questions to then ask their 3/4 and 5/6 buddies. The Grade 3/4 and 5/6 buddies wrote down their answers to the fabulous questions they were being asked, before typing up the answers. Some examples of these are:

Buddies questions by: Adelle, Maddi and Ruth

Sports Update

Recently Lara Primary School had one week of sporting events. The first event was the grand final for the lunchtime basketball. Hume vs Hovell. It was a really tough game, but hovel came out on top.

The second event was Winter Lightning Premiership at Geelong Grammar Collage. There were 5 events. We competed in AFL, Soccer, T-ball, Volley stars and Netball. Everyone tried their best and did an amazing job.

The very last event was Athletics. Everyone had a great day. Bass came out victorious. Everyone also tried their best again.

Thanks to Miss Brenan for making these days possible. It was a great week!!!

Geelong College Challenge

On Tuesday 24th of June, 4 students from Lara went to Geelong College to compete in a various number of challenges for the GEELONG COLLEGE CHALLENGE. The team consisted of Amy, Jack, Josh and Jade. They called themselves the AJ's!.

The challenges consisted of an art, maths, technology and major problem challenge!
They also did a biathlon! Phew! Josh and Jade did a run, Jack did boogie boarding and Amy did swimming!
Our students did really well in each challenge, but they did especially well in art and technology in which they got a 3rd in each!
The whole day was based on reaching for the stars! Students made a rocket for art and for the major problem.  The only difference was that for the major problem it actually had to fly! Each rocket had to try and stay in the air for as long as possible.
Overall the day was AMAZING!!!!  Well done to our competitors and Miss Brennan for helping us on the day :)
