Debating Success!

On Thursday the 19th of June, the debating team headed down to Westbourne Grammar. A lot of people got stuck in the after school traffic jam, but everyone got there eventually. Our school has two 2 teams- the A team and B team. The B team consists of Emily, Jack, Jade G, Logan and Charlie.  The A team consists of Alira, Amy, Seb, Annie and Jade.
Well done to both teams who won the debate on the topic of "Sharks should be culled".
A SUPER well done to Seb and Jack, who both were awarded best speaker!

Welcome new bloggers!

This semester, our 5/6 blog has been updated by Mrs Hudson.  With Mrs Hudson leaving for family leave, she has handed the baton over to a 'blogging team' and WHAT A TEAM they are!! :)
Our team consists of one member from each learning group class and they will be in charge of keeping our community up to date with the learning group building happenings!
Well done to:
Dylan, Thomas, Jade, Alira, Josh and Amy!

Onesies, Twosies and more!

On Tuesday the 3rd of June, our Junior School Council reps organised a successful PJ day for our whole school to participate!  Money raised was donated to the Salvation Army, who are going to use it for supplying blankets for the homeless.
We were given the opportunity to purchase a BIG M and a donut on the day which was delicious!
When roaming our school, there were students in onesies, twosies, ugg boots, slippers, dressing gowns and boxers! (Some kids even had bed hair!!)
Overall, it was the most comfiest day at school of the year!

Let's learn about emus!

As 'citizen scientists', HLG spent some part of their week at Serendip Sanctuary creating informative documentaries on our native animal - the emu!  What an interesting creature!  Our movies were made with IMovie on our new IPads and will be on display during the student learning conferences.  For now, here's a sneak peak of some finished products!

Education Week: "Scientists do AMAZING things!"

With the topic of EDUCATION WEEK being about science, what better opportunity is there to do some science experiments!?

This week we've turned our building into a science lab and we've seen pepper run away, made oobleck jiggle and we've even watched Frankensteins hand rise!

Kinder visits!

Recently, students in our 5/6 building put on their walking shoes and visited local kindergartens!  For some, it was a blast from the past to visit their old kinder and in some cases, see their past teacher!!

Students interacted with the younger kids and together read books, played games, did puzzles and drew pictures.

We'd love to see some of the smiling kinder students join Lara Primary School in Prep next year!

HLG @ Serendip

We love when it's our turn to visit our classroom down at Serendip!  Each day we have taken a packed lunch, snacks, walking shoes and our hats, to make our way down to Serendip Sanctuary.
The week at Serendip for every class is jam packed with a mixture of environmental and ICT studies and is ALWAYS a highlight!!

For HLG, our week so far has seen us interact with the rangers, take water samples from Hovell's Creek and run some tests on it back at Serendip.  We've learnt about the 'ecolinc' app on the IPads, being 'citizen scientists' for the ecolinc specialists.  This means, we collected bird data from Serendip and submitted it online.

We've also learnt how to use IMovie on the IPad, creating movies on 'emus', which could potentially be used for an up and coming Serendip app that is currently in the making!

For our Year Sixes, this is the last time they will visit our Serendip classroom (as an LPS  student) and boy will they miss it!
